Board rules

These rules are disclosed to clarify the various responsibilities of all community members here on Online Mental Health Forum & Support @ In My Head. They shall be adhered to by everyone to ensure that our board runs smoothly and provides a fun and productive experience for all of our community members and visitors.

  1. Terms and Conditions

    1. Applicability

      1. All rules apply to forum posts as well as private messages and cover www.inmyhead.me.uk #

    2. Participation

      1. By using this forum, you agree and acknowledge you are 18 years or older. We reserve the right to ban your username, email and IP address if it becomes clear this is not the case. #
      2. By registering an account with us, you need to provide us with an email. By doing so, you agree that our forum software, administrators and moderators will be able to send you email regarding this site. #
      3. You agree to register only one account that represents yourself. Multiple accounts per person is not allowed. This extends to re-registering another account if you are banned as it is the person, not the username that is prohibited under this rule. #

    3. Privacy and Terms

      1. By using this site, you agree to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Conditions. #
      2. Specifically, you agree not to post anything that breaches any applicable local, national or international law or regulation, including copyright or other intellectual property law. Doing so may lead to your username, email and IP address being immediately and permanently banned. #
      3. Specifically, you will not post content that is in any way unlawful, fraudulent or otherwise dishonest, or has any unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect. #
      4. You agree not to post any content that promotes any unlawful activity. #
      5. Specifically, we may change our terms at any time and we’ll do our utmost in informing you, though it would be prudent to review this regularly yourself as your continued usage of “In My Head” after changes mean you agree to be legally bound by these terms as they are updated and/or amended. #

  2. Engagement

    1. Post With Respect

      1. Treat every member with respect and compassion. #
      2. Use this as a space for non-urgent peer support and reach out to professionals if I’m in a crisis. #
      3. Offer a supportive ear to those who are sharing their journey. #
      4. You agree not to post content that can be perceived as threatening, abusive or invasive of another's privacy, or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety. #
      5. You will not post content that will likely harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or annoy any other person. #
      6. You will not impersonate any person, or to misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person. #
      7. If you see content that may indicate somebody is in crisis, signpost them to the Get Urgent Medical Help page. We appreciate that this is done on an best endeavours basis and based on when you see this content, but please do not try and act as a mean of therapy as professional help may be needed. #

    2. Privacy In Mind

      1. Keep our community conversations private and protect my own personal details. #
      2. You agree not to share any personally identifiable information on this publically accessible forum. This includes, but is not limited to: your date of birth, real name, address and contact details such as your telephone number. You agree not to ask another user for such details. #

  3. Site Content

    1. Linking off Site

      1. Linking to your own site or another site in a mental health context is acceptable (unless it is another mental health forum). Acceptable sites could include, for example, official government-owned web pages or registered charities. #
      2. We are not responsible for the content of external websites, and links to external sites should not be taken as our endorsement. #

    2. Accuracy of Information

      1. This community aims to ensure any information shared is as accurate as possible, however we do not provide any guarantee that it is. It is your responsibility to check any information that is factually accurate. If you are uncertain, you should contact your mental health professional. #

    3. Prohibited Content

      1. You agree that you will not post obscene, seditious, vulgar, pornographic, sexually explicit, discriminatory, shocking or deceptive content #
      2. You will not post defamatory content or content likely to give rise to an allegation of defamation. #
      3. You will not post any content promoting the use of tobacco or alcohol, nor encourage the use of them. #
      4. You will not post any content that encourages another user to participate in real money gambling with the opportunity to win real money or prizes based on the outcome of a game. #
      5. Discussions containing or promoting substances that alter mental state for the purpose of recreation are prohibited. Similarly content that promotes the sale of unapproved pharmaceuticals are equally prohibited. If you are uncertain about a particular pharmaceutical or supplement that may match this criteria, please contact the site's Administrators. #
      6. Topics promoting cruelty to animals or promotes the sale of products from endangered animals are prohibited #
      7. You will not post content for the purpose of harming or attempting to harm minors or any other person in any way #
      8. You agree not to post content that is racist, sexist of xenophobic #
      9. You agree not to post content where you are liable to offend religious sentiments or deeply held beliefs; #
      10. You agree not to post content that is unlikely to cause offence, embarrassment or annoyance to any person #
      11. You will not post any content that promotes violence including, but not limited to explosives, guns or any other weaponary. #
      12. You shall not post content that is abusive, threatening, offensive, harassing or invasive of privacy #
      13. You agree not to transmit knowingly any data, send or upload any material that contains viruses or disabling code including trojan horses, worms, time-bombs, ransomware, keystroke loggers, spyware, adware or any other harmful programs or similar computer code designed to adversely affect the operation of any computer software or hardware. #

    4. Sensitive Topics

      1. We welcome you to share your thoughts, feelings and experiences no matter how hard times may be. But we do not tolerate content that promotes or provides instructions on ending my life or self-harm. Any posts will be removed immediately and considering the circumstances may result in a permanent username, email and IP address ban. #
      2. You agree not to reply to or engage in any topics promoting or providing instructions on hurting myself or ending my life. Instead you should report the post immediately to a forum administrator using the 'report post' button available within each post. #

    5. Professional Advice

      1. Experiences, stories and knowledge sharing are from peers whom are likely to share synergies with eachother. However - this site is not a replacement for official treatment, nor can we offer professional diagnosis. You should always contact your relevant mental health practitioner. #

  4. Forum Moderation

    1. Interventions

      1. If you post when you are in crisis, one of our forum administrators or moderators will intervene and direct you to our 'Get Urgent Mental Health Help' page. You recognise our community can not help in these circumstances. #
      2. The forum administrators and moderators of this site reserve the right to edit, move, put on review any post or content. This could be for an undisclosed number of reasons including visitor safety. #

    2. Warnings

      1. This forum operates a warning system. If it is appropriate, it is at the discretion of the administrator or moderator to issue you with a warning. Warnings have a timeout period of 30 days. Should you receive 3 or more warnings within this time period, depending on the circumstances the administrator or moderator may decide to issue a ban ranging from 30 minutes through to a permanent ban. #

  5. Profile and Account

    1. Signature Rules

      1. Signatures may be up to 255 characters in length. Signatures should spread no more than 5 lines in height, OR; include a single image that is no more than 60px high and 468px wide with no animation and two lines of text in normal or small size. Images must not include faces as these may lead to identification. Smilies are disabled. #
      2. Signatures are limited to a maximum of three links, either internal or external to this site. Signature links that are found to be breaking the rules contained within this page will be removed. #

    2. Avatar Rules

      1. Avatars should be no larger than 120x120 pixels and cannot contain animation. They should be no larger than 48KB in file size. Images must not include faces as these may lead to identification. #

    3. Account Username

      1. You are not able to change your username, so please pick one you will stick with. If you wish for us to consider renaming your username, please contact the forum administrators with justification why and it will be put forward for consideration. You agree not to create an alternative account with a different username to bypass this rule. #

    4. Close Your Account

      1. If you wish to close your forum account you may do so by contacting the forum administrators using our Contact Us page. Currently, we are unable to provide a time-frame upon which this will be completed. You agree that your forum posts will not be deleted during this process. #
