The Different OS: A Neurodiversity Check-In

Post by SecretBipolar »

Greetings

If you’ve ever felt like your brain is running on Linux while the rest of the world is on Windows, you’ve found your people.

Whether you are navigating ADHD, Autism (ASD), Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, or any other form of neurodivergence, this is a space where you don’t have to "mask." You don’t have to apologize for your fidgeting, your hyper-fixations, or the fact that you forgot to eat because you were researching the history of 18th-century clockmaking.

In this corner of In My Head, we aren't looking for a "cure." We’re looking for community, hacks, and the freedom to be our authentic selves.

Let’s Compare "Brain Stats"

How is your unique wiring showing up for you today? We’d love to hear your thoughts on any of these:
  • The "Hyperfocus" Loop: What is your current "special interest"? What is the one thing you could give a 30-minute TED Talk on with zero preparation?
  • Sensory Wins & Woes: What is your "sensory safe" item right now? (A specific hoodie? Noise-canceling headphones? A certain crunchy snack?) And on the flip side—what’s the "sensory nightmare" you’re avoiding today?
  • The "Wall of Awful": Is there a "simple" task that your executive function is just blocking today? (Looking at you, pile of laundry or that one un-replied email.)
  • Finding Your Flow: When do you feel most "at home" in your brain? Is it when you’re creating, organizing, moving, or something else entirely?
A Note on Self-Diagnosis

We know that getting a formal "piece of paper" can be expensive, difficult, and sometimes inaccessible. If you have done the research and you see yourself in these traits, you are welcome here. We trust your lived experience of your own mind.

Drop a comment below! Tell us your "Brain Type," your current hyperfocus, or just say hi. We speak your language here.
Very best regards,

Greetings

I can't quite work out whether this is a special interest or me being high or me using creative therapy; BUT I am obsessed with making this site succeed.

I don't have the knowledge about Autism as I was diagnosed on my fit note "Autism Spectrum Disorder Suspected" so I am still learning. I have always been a web nerd and its my 'extra fine interest'. :ugeek: Or; as the reason I started this community - it was creative therapy for me; giving me an avenue to express how I feel through something I enjoy. :geek:

Does anybody else have any insight on this for me - I am still learning about Autism - and the guidance I have been given is the diagnosis waiting list is in years so I will have to learn its symptoms, how it applies to me and therefore how I can manage it.

So yes - I am in HYPERFOCUS at the moment - and I think probably at the expense of sleep (which I know is a bad thing so I need to be stricter on this).
Very best regards,
