Hi
I posted in the other forum that I am convinced I have BPD as its the only thing that can sway my mood so much. I wanted to post here to validate BPD vs Bipolar.
I know there are some differences but would be nice to know other peoples views?

Re: [Seeking Help] BPD or Bipolar?
Greetings
Sorry you feel confused with this. Maybe your local CMHT can pass / refer you to some courses which talk about personality disorders. I recently completed a course - one which touched on BPD and it was really useful. I have bipolar and was really easy for me to start seeing the differences.
As an example, I learnt that BPD happens more chronically and in response to an outside influence - this would then spike an episode which lasts hours/day or so.
Compare that with Bipolar where the requirement is (don't hold me to this) at least 2 weeks and is typically more sever. You start to learn the differences and the nuances.
Also, I was told that with a personalty disorder, the learnings you've adopted growing up / in early adult life - you can re-wire your brain. Compare that to Bipolar - there is some natural brain chemistry out of sorts which is why medication is typically prescribed for Bipolar and not a personality disorder.
I hope that helps and the above is just my learnings that I have learnt. Also, as always visit the GP and explain what is going on. See our GP Cheat Sheet: gp-cheat-sheet

Hi Mad Max......only your GP can answer these questions....I know probably not the answer you want, but it is definately your best bet.......SecretBipolar published a GP Cheat Sheet in the knowledge base - got and check that out as it will help you structure your conversation and so you don't get lost in your thinking.
